September 2023

The MUSE Lab participated in the 2023 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS) held in Montreal, Canada on 3rd-8th September. Five (5) posters were presented by the MUSE Lab. The research presented focused on ultrasound shear wave viscoelastography, quantitative ultrasound for tissue characterization, image-guided histotripsy, and development of viscoelastic tissue-mimicking phantoms.

Prof. Himanshu and Sapna Bisht, a PhD student, attended in person. Jagruti Patil, a PhD student, attended virtually. Hari Nair, a former MTech student from the MUSE Lab, who is now a PhD student at the University of Montreal, also attended in person.

Prof. Himanshu was one of the two panelists (along with Libertario Demi PhD) for the “New Faculty Tips” session. He was also was one of the judges for the Student Pitch Competition. Prof. Himanshu co-chaired an “Image-Guided Theranostics” session with Prof. Geoffrey Luke (Dartmouth) and helped organize the Mentorship Luncheon.

Prof. Karla was involved in the planning of the Young Professionals sessions.

August 2023

Manik Kakkar, a former Master’s student and Sabarmati Bridge Fellow, joined the PhD program at the Johns Hopkins University in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Manik will be working with Dr. Muyinati Bell at the Photoacoustic and Ultrasound System Engineering (PULSE) Lab for his doctoral work.

Best wishes to Manik!

July 2023

Mekdes was selected for the Ph.D. program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, U.S.A.

Bhanu joined Optimized Solutions Limited, Ahmedabad.

Surabhi continued working in the MUSE Lab as a Sabaramati Bridge Fellow.

Sanjay was selected for the graduate program in Georgia Tech, USA.

Best wishes to all of them!

July 2023

Many congratulations to Mekdes and Bhanu for successfully defending their Master’s theses!

July 2023

Congratulations to Sapna Bisht, a Ph.D. candidate in the MUSE Lab, for winning the Best Poster Award in Biological Engineering at the 2023 Ph.D. Research Showcase at IIT Gandhinagar!! Sapna’s research is on ultrasound elastography.

July 2023

Prof. Karla was invited to give a guest seminar to the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.

July 2023

Prof. Karla delivered an invited talk on July 17, 2023, at the workshop on Applications of AI/ML in Biomedical Signal Processing and Computer Vision at the Pandit Deendayal Energy University- PDEU, sponsored by the Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST) and the Soft Computing Research Society. Thanks to the Department of ICT, PDEU for the invitation.

June 2023

The MUSE Lab had the pleasure of hosting Nujhat Shekh and Prachi Pandit, who completed their summer undergraduate research internship, which was supported by the Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission. We also welcome Aqib Mir, a Master’s student, who has begun his summer internship as part of the AICTE J&K internship program.

June 2023

Prof. Karla, Prof. Himanshu, Dr. Nishita Mistry, and Sapna Bisht had a fruitful visit to the National Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar. Thanks to our collaborator,Prof. Bhoomika Patel and Nandini Gupta, a Ph.D student in her lab, for hosting and showing us the exciting work at the university!

May 2023

Prof. Karla Mercado-Shekhar and Vishwas Trivedi gave talks on the research efforts of the MUSE Lab at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech) on 15th May. Many thanks to Prof. Mikhail Shapiro and Dr. Rohit Nayak for hosting and showing them the fascinating work going on in the Shapiro Lab!

May 2023

Prof. Karla Mercado-Shekhar, Vishwas Trivedi, and Dr. Anuj Kaushik participated in the 184th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in Chicago, Illinois, USA from 8th-12th May. Our group gave 3 lecture presentations on 1) H-scan imaging for tumor identification (Manik Kakkar’s work), 2) contrast-enhanced imaging of histotripsy bubble clouds (Vishwa Trivedi’s work), and 3) characterization of the temporal response of contrast agents (Anuj Kaushik’s work).

Prof. Karla Mercado-Shekhar also chaired one of the Biomedical Acoustics sessions titled “General Topics in Biomedical Acoustics: Bubbles and more,” which was held on 12th May and had 18 talks.
