The MUSE Lab participated in the Symposium and Workshop on Medical Imaging @IISER Thiruvananthpuram from 20th – 22nd October. Eight posters were presented by our group members. Profs. Karla and Himanshu each gave an invited tutorial talk and an invited research talk. It was great to learn from talks on ultrasound, photoacoustics, CT, and MRI by distinguished academic, industry, and clinical researchers. Thanks to Prof. Mayanglambam Suheshkumar Singh for the invitation!

Congratulations to Dr. Abhijit Paul and Sapna Bisht from the MUSE Lab on both being awarded the 3rd prize for the best posters at this symposium!

Prof. Karla Mercado-Shekhar shared our recent efforts in advancing ultrasound for biotechnology and biomedical applications at the PRABODH (Promoting Research Awareness in Biotechnology for Development of Human Resources) event of the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Center.

Profs. Himanshu Shekhar and Karla Mercado-Shekhar were Chairs of the Student and Young Professionals (YPs) Activities Committee at the IEEE International Symposium in Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) 2022 that was held in Kolkata, India from 28-31 March. Ph.D. students Sapna Bisht and Ruchika Dhawan participated as conference volunteers. Activities included Speed Networking, Lunch with Leaders, Career Date Meeting, Manuscript Writing from ISBI to Transactions, Grant Writing, and Imaging Careers for Biomedical Engineers. Overall, all the events were well-attended and gave students and YPs the opportunity to forge networks for advancing their careers.

Profs. Himanshu Shekhar and Karla Mercado-Shekhar has been appointed as members of the Technical Program Committee of the IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS). Their term duration is 3 years.

Congratulations to Manita Das, Ph.D. from the MUSE Lab for receiving the Department of Biotechnology Research Associate Fellowship! Manita is one of 37 recipients nationally. Manita has a background in Chemistry and plans to work on ultrasound-mediated therapeutics.

Congratulations to Prof. Himanshu Shekhar for being recognized as an Expertscape Expert in “Contrast Media”! With this, he has been rated as within 1% of world experts in the field.

The MUSE Lab has been awarded the Start-up Research Grant from the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) to pursue research on developing duplex shear wave elasticity imaging and ultrafast Doppler ultrasound for potential application in kidney implant monitoring for the next 2 years. Prof. Karla is the PI for this work, and she will collaborate with Prof. Prachi Thareja (Soft Matter Rheology Lab at IIT Gandhinagar).
