 2025

  • Prof. Himanshu Shekhar was appointed Track Lead of “Biological Effects & Dosimetry” for the 2025 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium along with Dr. Keith Wear of U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

  • Akash Chandra (PhD candidate) won 3rd prize in the Simply Speaking competition at IIT Gandhinagar. Participants were challenged to present their research in a simple, engaging, and understandable manner, making complex ideas accessible to a broad audience.

  • Jagruti Patil (PhD candidate) won the Best Poster Award in the Biomedical, Biological, and Agricultural Sciences category at the Annual Prime Minister’s Research Fellows (PMRF) Symposium held at IIT Hyderabad on March 16-17, 2025.

  • Prof. Karla Mercado-Shekhar was appointed as Associate Editor for the journal IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control.

  • Manu K S (Ph.D. candidate) won the Best Poster Award in Electrical Engineering at the Ph.D. Research Showcase at IIT Gandhinagar.

  • Manu K S (Ph.D. candidate) won the Best Graduate Teaching Fellow Award at IIT Gandhinagar.

  • Akash Chandra (PhD candidate) received the CIRE Award from the Committee for International Research and Education (CIRE) of the Acoustical Society of America. This award provided $1,000 for his research endeavors and a 3-year student membership to Acoustical Society of America.

2024

  • Prof. Karla Mercado-Shekhar delivered the Distinguished RCBU Alumni Lecture at the Rochester Center for Biomedical Ultrasound (RCBU) Symposium at the University of Rochester, New York, U.S.A., on 12th November 2024.

  • Prof. Himanshu Shekhar was selected for the “Rising Scientists in Therapeutic Ultrasound” talk, organized by the International Society for Therapeutic Ultrasound on 25th October 2024.

  • Abhinav Kumar Singh (PhD candidate) won a $1200 Student Travel Award to attend the IEEE UFFC Joint Symposium, Taipei, Taiwan, in September 2024.

  • Prof. Karla Mercado-Shekhar was named a Scholar by the IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society. She was awarded up to $5,000 to participate in the IEEE UFFC Joint Symposium, Taipei, Taiwan, in September 2024.

  • Akash Chandra (PhD candidate) won 1st prize in the Best Poster competition at the Deep Learning and Medical Imaging Summer School at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur from 8th-13th July 2024.

  • Prof. Karla Mercado-Shekhar received a $500 Early Career Travel Award to participate in the 186th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America from 13th-17th May 2024 at Ottawa, Canada. She also co-chaired the special session “Return of the Writer” with Dr. Kevin Haworth (University of Cincinnati) and Dr. Julianna Simon (Penn State University).
  • MUSE Lab members organized the first IEEE South Asian Ultrasonics Symposium (SAUS) at IIT Gandhinagar.

  • Manu KS and Jagruti Patil (PhD candidates) won 1st and 3rd Best Poster prizes at the IEEE SAUS, respectively.

  • Akash Chandra (PhD candidate) won 2nd Best Poster prize for Track-2: Signal/Image/Video Processing at the IGNITE Symposium on Ph.D. Forum and Poster Presentation event, organized by IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Gujarat Section, in collaboration with IEEE SPS Pandit Deendayal Energy University, held on March 1-2, 2024.

  • Sapna Bisht (PhD candidate) received the CIRE Award from the Committee for International Research and Education (CIRE) of the Acoustical Society of America. This award provided $1,000 for her research endeavors and a 3-year student membership to Acoustical Society of America.

2023

  • Jagruti M. Patil and Manu K S (PhD candidates) have both been awarded the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship from the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
  • Prof. Karla Mercado-Shekhar received a $500 Early Career Travel Award to participate in the 184th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America from 8th-11th May 2023 at Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. She also chaired the Biomedical Acoustics session titled “General Topics in Biomedical Acoustics: Bubbles and More”.
  • Vishwas Trivedi (PhD candidate) received a $300 Student Travel Award to participate in the 184th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America.

  • Surabhi Menon (MSc graduate) won the Best Poster Award at the Postgraduate Research Showcase at IIT Gandhinagar. Surabhi received the award from our Director on the occasion of Republic Day!

  • Sapna Bisht (PhD candidate) won the Best Poster Award in Biological Engineering at the Ph.D. Research Showcase at IIT Gandhinagar.

    2022

    • Dr. Abhijit Paul (Research Associate) and Sapna Bisht (PhD candidate) from the MUSE Lab were both awarded the 3rd prize for the Best Poster Award at the Symposium and Workshop on Medical Imaging at IISER Thiruvananthpuram from 20th – 22nd October.

    • Profs. Himanshu Shekhar and Karla Mercado-Shekhar has been appointed as members of the Technical Program Committee of the IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS). Their term duration is 3 years.

    • Dr. Manita Das (Research Associate) received the Department of Biotechnology Research Associate Fellowship. Manita was one of 37 recipients nationally.

    • Prof. Himanshu Shekhar was recognized as an Expertscape Expert in “Contrast Media”. He has been rated as within 1% of world experts in the field.

    2021

    • Ananya Sharma (MTech graduate) received the President’s Gold Medal and the Institute Gold Medal for her outstanding academic performance at IIT Gandhinagar.

    • Chandan Kumar Jha, PhD for receiving the Gold Medal for Outstanding Innovation. Chandan was advised by Arup Lal Chakraborty for his Ph.D. thesis and was working in the MUSE Lab as a Postdoctoral Fellow.

    • Prof. Himanshu Shekhar was awarded the Har Govind Khorana-Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. This award includes a 3-year fellowship and a research grant, which will enable Prof. Shekhar to pursue ultrasound-based approaches for treating breast cancer.
