Research Areas

Intelligent Systems for Effective Communication and Independent Living  At HAIx Lab, we develop intelligent human-computer and brain-computer interface-based assistive technologies to facilitate novel communication mediums that can aid in removing many barriers that people with disabilities face, and to promote independent living for individuals with diverse needs. We aim to leverage artificial intelligence to enhance quality of life and accessibility, ensuring everyone can benefit from advanced technological solutions.

Neuro Rehabilitation for Movement Restoration We focus on innovative neuro-rehabilitation technologies designed to aid in restoring movement for individuals affected by neurological disorders. Our work includes developing BCI-operated exoskeletons and gamified AR/VR-based systems for post-stroke rehabilitation. By combining AI with neuroscience, we strive to create effective and personalized rehabilitation solutions promoting trustworthiness and transparency, that can significantly improve patients’ lives.

Smart Sensor Technologies, eHealth, and Medical Imaging HAIx Lab is involved in developing smart sensor technologies for eHealth and medical imaging applications. In addition, we focus on implementing user-friendly, easy-to-use, familiar low-technology solutions for diverse needs, i.e., NFC, Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS on smartphones and smartwatches, an NFC card reader with an NFC card and a barcode scanner with a barcode. Our aim is to enhance automation and healthcare outcomes by making advanced sensing and diagnostic technologies more accurate, accessible, and effective.

Sustainable Interfaces and Interactions Our lab focuses on developing self-powered and sustainable interactive devices that enhance human-computer interaction. These technologies aim to be efficient, operating without reliance on external power sources and utilising materials that enable the self-powering of their interactive features. We aim to reduce the energy demands and physical clutter associated with IoT sensors, actuators, and displays, an essential step toward more accessible and reliable methods of application interaction.
