Fire Engineering Research Laboratory (FERL)

The Fire Engineering Research Laboratory (FERL) at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) is a dedicated research facility engaged in advancing the science and engineering of fire safety. The laboratory undertakes fundamental and applied research addressing fire risk, fire dynamics, and safety of the built environment and critical infrastructure.

FERL adopts a rigorous, evidence-based approach integrating experimental studies, computational modeling, and analytical methods to generate knowledge that informs engineering practice, safety standards, and policy development.

Experimental Research

Controlled experiments to study fire behavior, material performance, and system response under fire conditions.

Computational & Analytical Studies

Numerical modeling and data-driven analysis to support performance-based fire safety design and risk assessment.

WHY FERL ?

Research-Led Fire Safety Engineering

FERL operates within the academic and research framework of IIT Gandhinagar, emphasizing scientific rigor, transparency, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The laboratory’s work is driven by research relevance, methodological soundness, and societal impact rather than commercial service delivery.
