In 2025, IIT Gandhinagar (IITGN) hosted a delegation from Vietnam as part of an academic and technical exchange aimed at strengthening international collaboration in the areas of fire engineering, building safety, and applied research. The visit focused on providing the delegation with first-hand exposure to IITGN’s advanced experimental infrastructure and ongoing research initiatives.
The delegation toured key facilities associated with fire safety and structural performance testing, including full-scale fire testing setups and façade fire evaluation systems. Detailed demonstrations were conducted to explain experimental methodologies, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and safety protocols adopted during large-scale fire experiments. The visitors were briefed on how these facilities support research related to fire-resistant materials, façade performance, and real-fire scenario analysis relevant to modern infrastructure.
During indoor interactions, laboratory researchers and faculty members presented control systems, monitoring panels, and test instrumentation, outlining how experimental data is used to inform building design, performance-based fire engineering, and code development. These discussions enabled technical exchange on best practices, research challenges, and opportunities for collaborative studies between Indian and Vietnamese institutions.
The visit concluded with a walkthrough of the broader research campus, highlighting IITGN’s emphasis on interdisciplinary research, sustainability, and international engagement. Overall, the Vietnamese delegation’s visit served as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, mutual learning, and exploring future academic and research partnerships in the domain of fire engineering and infrastructure safety.
