Dr. Leslee Lazar
Principal Investigator
I recieved my Bachelor’s degree from Loyola College, Chennai, and Master’s degree from the University of Madras, both in Zoology. I then obtained my Ph.D. in Neuroscience from National Brain Research Centre, Manesar, followed by a short stint as Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School (Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre, Boston). In my Ph.D. research, I studied the patterns of neural activity and neuroanatomical connections of neurons of the digit representation of the primary somatosensory area (3b) of macaque monkeys. I also studied the plasticity of somatosensory and motor cortical maps of monkeys and rats. In my post-doctoral fellowship, I studied the midbrain circuits underlying the initiation of locomotion using optogenetics and neuroanatomical tracing in transgenic mice. Currently, at IIT Gandhinagar, I am interested in understanding the cognitive and neural mechanisms of human multimodal tactile perception.
You can find me on the football field in the evening; I love to cook and ride my motorbike on the weekends. I also do some art in my free time – Leslee Lazar – Visual Artist / Neuroscientist

Nisma Fathima
Msc Cogitive Science Thesis Student
After completing my Bachelor’s in Corporate Secretaryship, I transitioned to Cognitive Science to pursue my fascination with the brain and human cognition from a multidisciplinary perspective. At TaPer Lab, my research focuses on linguistic relativity and vibrotactile perception, exploring how language influences sensory processing and categorization. In my leisure time, I enjoy immersing myself in anime, savoring delicious food, and listening to music.
Srisai Rakesh Kottu
Junior Research Fellow
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science & Engineering from Sri Venateswara University, Tirupati; and a master’s degree in Cognitive Science from IIT Gandhinagar. I am Currently working on Body Representations & Tool embodiment, other interests include computational modelling, cognition of language and embodied cognition. I watch a lot of Cinema and like to discuss about them, also have keen interests in History, maps and Cryptography.
Muskan Jindal
PhD Student
I have recently joined TaPer lab as a PhD student. Before this, I worked as a research assistant at the Centre for Behavioral Science (CBS) Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. I have received a master’s degree in cognitive science from the Center of Behavioral and Cognitive Science (CBCS) at the University of Allahabad. During this time, my focus was exploring the intriguing relationship between bilingual experiences and general purposive executive control. My educational foundation includes a bachelor’s degree in Botany from Ramjas College, University of Delhi. Apart from research, I like to go for long walks, read (Hindi satire), do Yoga, and watch psychological thrillers.
Varsha Shree Gandhimathinathan
Msc Cogitive Science Thesis Student
I’m currently pursuing my second-year master’s degree, having completed a bachelor’s in Psychology from PSG College of Arts and Science. At Taper Lab, my research focuses on Hand Representation and Hand Localisation, with broader interests in areas like Tool Embodiment and Tactile Temporal Order Judgement. Outside of research, I find joy in dancing, cooking, and listening to music.
Ashutosh Bagchi
Ph.D (Cognitive Science) Student
I am a Cognitive Science PhD Student at IIT Gandhinagar since 2023. I graduated from Amity University, Noida with a dual degree (B.Sc. + M.Sc.) in Biotechnology. Currently I am studying tactile perception through behavioral experiments, using vibro-tactile stimuli controlled by Arduino-driven systems. In the future, I look forward to correlating this data with that obtained from electrophysiological studies. When time permits, I like to pursue my other hobbies such as drawing and playing computer games.
Sreelakshmi K
Project Assistant
My academic background spans from a BSc in Physics, from Delhi University to my current pursuit of Masters in Cognitive Science. Currently working on tactile categorical perception using EEG as well as behavioural methods. When I’m not unravelling cognitive mysteries, you can catch me dancing, singing, creating videos, or getting lost in captivating books!
